I read about memory palaces as a kid.

The Greek poet Simonides stepped outside a banquet hall moments before the roof came down. The bodies were unrecognisable. He named every guest — by remembering where each had been sitting.
That became a technique. You walk through a building you already know, and you leave the things you need to remember in its rooms. To recall them, you walk back through.
Nobody remembers a fact on its own. You remember it somewhere — attached to a place, and to whatever was sitting beside it.

So I spent years trying to flatten mine.

None of it worked especially well. My memory is, at best, average — I lose names, dates, and keys. I tell my mother it's because we grew up in a small house. You can't build much of a palace in two bedrooms.

In a 1939 story, Borges invents a writer — Pierre Menard — who sets out to compose Don Quixote. Not to copy it: to arrive at it, word for word, on his own. He manages a few chapters, and the narrator judges Menard's version the richer of the two — because identical sentences, written three hundred years later, cannot possibly mean the same thing.
A book can change history.
History changes the book back — without altering a single word.
Which is what the edges are for. A Memory doesn't change — what changes is everything that arrives around it. So each one keeps its date, and you can ask not what's true now, but what we thought this meant before the rest of it happened.
What makes the graph more than a database

Four properties that matter.

Deduplication

Cosine similarity above 0.85 reinforces the existing Memory instead of creating a duplicate. The graph never accumulates five different ways to say the same thing.

Decay

Each Memory type ages at its own rate.

Clustering

A separate job scans for near-duplicates that fall just below the dedup threshold and proposes a merge. A human always approves — the system never silently restructures the graph.

Provenance

Every Memory remembers exactly how it entered the graph — which agent, which run, which user, which sources. Replay graph state as of any past date with a single query.
